The Bible is full of examples of God’s people being a singing people. The first song written down in the Bible is in Exodus 15. God has miraculously saved his people and their natural response is to burst into song. But there are loads more songs in the Old Testament. Psalms is a collection of 150 songs. We are told King Solomon wrote 1005 songs (1 Kings 4:32), his best one being the Bible book called Song of Songs. The Old Testament is littered with singing.

And the New Testament contains singing as well. Jesus himself sings just before going to the cross (Matt 26:30). The New Testament contains instructions telling us to sing. Ephesians 5 is one example:

Eph 5:18-20 (ESV) And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

As music group our vision is to be a church that declares the glory of God in Christ through heartfelt song thereby praising the Lord, edifying the church and reaching the world.

Music is a key part of the life of JPC and we love to see people using their musical gifts to serve Christ and his church. If you’d like more information about music ministry or if you’d like to get involved download the Music Ministry Handbook or get in touch via music@church.org.uk
